Heart of Calgary Award - Sponsored by ConocoPhillips
The Heart of Calgary Award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding lifetime contribution to the Calgary community through their efforts as a volunteer. This individual demonstrates a passion and commitment to creating a healthy and vibrant community and serves as an inspiration for others to make a commitment to volunteering.
To submit an eligible nomination and do justice to your nominee, your nomination should include ALL of the following information:
1. A description of this individual’s lifelong contributions to community as a volunteer
2. A description of the impact this individual has on the community through volunteering
Tip: newspaper or magazine articles may be submitted.
3. An indication of how this individual inspires others to volunteer and serves as a role model to their community
Tip: letters and testimonials may be submitted
4. Other community recognition of this individual’s volunteer and other achievements
Tip: certificates, photographs or timeline of volunteer accomplishments may be submitted
5. Testimonial letter from a volunteer manager/coordinator or this individual has been supervised by or worked with
6. A second testimonial letter from an individual or group this individual has served through volunteering or a fellow volunteer who has volunteered with this individual during his/her volunteer career, or a person who has been inspired to volunteer by this individual

Leader in Volunteer Management Award - Sponsored by Suncor
The Leader in Volunteer Management award is open to individuals who are responsible for managing and supporting volunteers within their non-profit or charitable organization. This award is given to an individual in this capacity who demonstrates excellence and innovation in the leadership of volunteers in one of Volunteer Calgary’s nonprofit member organizations.
To submit an eligible nomination and do justice to your nominee, your nomination should include ALL of the following information:
1. Provide a 300-500 word summary of the organizational volunteer engagement and how this individual works to support, develop and strengthen volunteerism throughout their organization. Provide at least one specific example that demonstrates how volunteers are engaged at various levels within the organization.
2. In brief paragraph describe how the nominee has acknowledged the importance and vital role that volunteers have within the organization.
3. in a brief paragraph describe how the nominee has adopted and implemented policies and procedures that assist the entire organization in supporting the work of volunteers within the organization.
Tip: Policy documentation or manuals etc may be submitted if they have been designed, written or edited by the nominee
4. Provide at least two examples of how the nominee has developed and supported relevant volunteer opportunities that directly reflect and impact the mission of the organization.
5. Provide a list of the nominee’s own professional accomplishments, community involvement, awards and honours.
Tip: Newspaper articles copies of certificates and/or awards may be included with submission
6. In one paragraph describe how the individual has made the volunteer program strategic, innovative and effective.

Leaders of Tomorrow Award - Sponsored by EnCana
The Leaders of Tomorrow Award recognizes youth people who make a difference in Calgary through their volunteer activities. Three individuals are recognized each year in the elementary, junior high and senior high categories for their energy, commitment and character as volunteers.
Please note: Nominations may be submitted by students, volunteers, peers, parents, nonprofit organizations, teachers, and/or school staff.
To submit an eligible nomination and do justice to your nominee, your nomination should include ALL of the following information:
1. The volunteer activities the individual engages in, the organizations they volunteer with and the length of service.
Tip: Photos of the nominee in their volunteer role may compliment this information
2. In 300-500 words describe what motivated the nominee to volunteer.
3. In 300-500 words describe the impact the nominee makes to the organization they volunteer with and/or the community at large.
Tip: Newsletters, newspaper articles, school posters or testimonials from teachers or school principal could be submitted here
4. Provide at least one letter of recommendation or a testimonial letter that supports the volunteer’s contribution from an adult that supervises the youth or someone who has directly benefited from their volunteerism.
5. Give an example of how this individual has inspired others or has served as a role model to their community, school, friends or family.

Leaders in Employee Volunteering- Sponsored by Chevron
The Leaders in Employee Volunteering award recognizes Calgary organizations that demonstrate partnership development, leadership and innovation in employer supported volunteering. Three organizations are recognized each year in the small, medium and large business categories as determined by the number of employees.
Please note: This category is open to all Calgary businesses, corporations, non-profit organizations and government agencies. Nominations can be submitted by employees, retired employee volunteers, the beneficiary of the volunteerism or by the organization itself.
To submit an eligible nomination and do justice to your nominee, your nomination should include ALL of the following information:
1. The name of the organization and primary industry in which it operates.
2. Indicate the size category that this organization fits within as follows:
- Small 1-25 employees
- Medium 26 -100 employees
- Large 100+ employees
3. Why does the organization support employee volunteerism?
4. Describe how the organization supports it employees to engage in volunteering activity in the community (Internal posters or newsletters, flexible work hours, tracking volunteer time, matching volunteer hours are all examples that can be including in the nomination)
5. How do the employees benefit from their participation in this program provide testimonials from at least one employee participant in the organization’s employee volunteer program
6. How does the community benefit from the employee volunteer program, Provide testimonials additional letters of support from other non-profit organizations or agencies that benefit from the employee volunteering program.

Leaders in Volunteer Engagement- Sponsored by Enbridge
NOMINATING CRITERIA
The Leaders in Volunteer Engagement award is open to Calgary non-profit organizations and registered charities that demonstrate strategic volunteer engagement in a program or event, that is innovative and advances the organization’s mission, goals and contribution to the greater community.
Please note: The volunteer engagement must have taken place in the previous calendar year (2009)
To submit an eligible nomination and do justice to your nominee, your nomination should include ALL of the following information:
Nomination Requirements:
1. A description of the organizational volunteer engagement, and specific details regarding the program, event or project. Include information regarding the objectives, resources and measurable results of the program or event.
Tip: reports or newspaper/magazine articles that include these details may be submitted if available and appropriate.
2. A description of how volunteer engagement is strategic and innovative.
3. A summary of the history and mission of the organization and the CRA number.
Tip: Annual reports would include such details and may be submitted if you have if appropriate.
4. A description of how the program, event or project supports the mission and goals of the nonprofit organization.
5. Describe the effectiveness or success of the volunteer engagement.
6. To support your nomination please provide up to three testimonials that illustrate the impact of the involvement in the community.
Tip: these testimonials may include letters from volunteers, clients or staff and relevant articles in newspapers or magazine can be submitted

Volunteer in Profile Award - Sponsored by CTV
The Volunteer in Profile Award recognizes an individual volunteer for outstanding commitment to a Volunteer Calgary member organization in the previous year. This award is an extension of Volunteer Calgary's ongoing partnership with CTV which recognizes individual volunteers each week by broadcasting volunteer profiles.
Note: Nominations are open throughout the year. In order to be eligible for the Volunteer in Profile Award, an individual must have been selected to be profiled during the previous calendar year.
Nominations should be approximately 500 words in length and include the following information:
- The name of the individual being nominated.
- The individuals volunteer role(s) and associate organization
- The impact of the volunteer's work in the community
- Why they volunteer
Recipients of the Leaders of Tomorrow Award will receive the following:
- Leadership Awards signature art piece
- Participation in the Leadership Awards event
- Profiled as a Volunteer in Profile on CTV
- Profile as a Leadership Awards recipient in Volunteer Calgary communications material A donation of $12,500 in CTV airtime and production of a PSA for an organization chosen by the winner.
Volunteer Family Award - Sponsored by Devon
NOMINATING CRITERIA
The Volunteer Family Award recognizes a family that volunteers together as a team; consisting of at least one adult and one child who are related. Its purpose is to celebrate the important role that parents and other influential adults play in inspiring children and youth to become lifelong volunteers with a strong sense of civic responsibility.
To submit an eligible nomination and do justice to your nominee, your nomination should include ALL of the following information:
1. A description of the family volunteers and their relationship to each other
2. A description of the volunteer contributions the family make together as a group including organization(s) and volunteer roles
3. A description of how the adults in the family positively role model volunteering to the youth in the family
4. A demonstration that the youth are becoming lifelong volunteers
5. Testimonial letter from at least one of the following:
- A volunteer manager/coordinator of an organization that this family volunteers with
- An individual or group that this family has served through volunteering
6. Additional supporting documentation including if possible
- Relevant news/magazine articles
- Photographs from events or activities the family has volunteered with

Volunteer Animal Award
The Volunteer Animal Award recognizes an animal that demonstrates the spirit of volunteerism through its active volunteer involvement and contribution to the community. The recipient of this award may share the honour with an individual who is a partner in the animal’s volunteer activities.
Volunteer Calgary knows that volunteerism on the part of animals, often requires some human assistance. The award recipient may share his or her award with a human counterpart and the invitation to attend the Leadership Awards ceremony will be extended to one human companion.
To submit an eligible nomination and do justice to your nominee, your nomination should include ALL of the following information:
1. A description of the volunteer animal’s significant volunteer contribution with one or more organization
2. A photograph of the animal involved in their volunteer role
3. A description of the animal’s relationship with his or her owner(s)
4. A description of the impact the volunteer animal makes on individuals and/or community
Tip: Newspaper articles or photographs may be submitted to support this requirement.
5. How the animal demonstrates enjoyment as a volunteer
6. Testimonial from someone who has benefited from the volunteerism of the animal.
