Volunteer in Profile Program

For more than a decade now, Volunteer Calgary and CTV have teamed up to bring the stories of the city's amazing volunteers to life on TV and continue to proudly present...the VIP!

Who or what is the VIP?

Each month, Volunteer Calgary selects an exceptional volunteer to be featured in CTV's In Touch segment hosted by Pearl Tsang. The Volunteer in Profile or "VIP" of the month appears in a 2-minute vignette, airing on the last Wednesday evening of each month for the entire Calgary audience to see.

Why nominate someone for VIP?

It is a great opportunity to let Calgarians know about a volunteer's remarkable feats of volunteerism. VIP is also a great way to promote a non-profit organization or create awareness for its cause. If the volunteer is selected, this means absolutely free publicity for the organization.

Who can nominate a VIP?

Individuals, companies, non-profit organizations, family, friends, or co-workers can send in a nomination. If you know a volunteer that deserves to be recognized, you can nominate someone. Be sure to comply strictly with the requirements to ensure your nomination will qualify.

How is a VIP nominated?

Follow these simple steps.

1. Fill in a Nomination Form.

2. Ensure that the volunteer is eligible based on the following criteria and check that the appropriate supporting documentation is supplied:

  • Nominee must currently volunteer with a registered charity or a non-profit organization in Calgary. Note: Only one organization may be featured in the segment, so choose the most relevant one to showcase the volunteer's story.
  • Nominee must have demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to helping an organization further its mission or cause. This must be supported by specific examples.
  • Nominee must have made a positive and significant impact on the non-profit organization, its clientele, or the community. This must be supported by specific examples.
  • Letter of recommendation or testimonial from a staff member of the non-profit organization benefitted by the volunteer's efforts should be submitted.

When can a nomination be submitted?

You may nominate someone any time within the year as nominations are reviewed for consideration throughout the year.

What's in it for the VIP?

Being VIP has its perks!

  • 2-minutes of airtime on CTV's In Touch segment
  • Promotion for the non-profit organization
  • Automatic nomination for the Volunteer in Profile Award

What happens if a nominee is selected?

The nominator and/or nominee will be contacted and notified by Volunteer Calgary. A schedule will be arranged for time and date of the video shoot. Details and logistics will be coordinated by Volunteer Calgary.

On the day of the video shoot, the CTV News Crew, headed by Pearl Tsang, will come to capture the volunteer in action and conduct interviews as necessary with the VIP and the nominator.

The video will be aired on the last Wednesday of the month on CTV's evening newscast. It will also be available on the Volunteer Calgary and CTV website for the duration of one month.

What is the VIP Award?

The Volunteer in Profile Award is one of the award categories for the Annual Leadership Awards.

The 12 monthly VIPs of the year will automatically become qualified nominees for the Volunteer in Profile Award for the upcoming year. One outstanding VIP will be chosen by the Selection Committee and will be the recipient of the Volunteer In Profile Award.

If selected as the recipient of the Volunteer in Profile Award, the nominee will be notified. In addition to the monthly VIP benefits, the final VIP Award recipient will also receive:

  • Free production of a Public Service Announcement for the organization chosen by the winner of the VIP award and $12,500 in airtime.
  • CTV will provide a video of approximately 2 minutes in length of the winner of the VIP award that will air during the Leadership Awards ceremony.
  • Two tickets to the Leadership Awards gala (with a value of $75.00 each).
  • Invitation to the VIP Reception during the Leadership Awards.
